(The book he picked up would be of the adventure story sort, less about battles and more about cunning heroes or tricksters. A book about mythological heroes would be his first choice.)
*When the ladies begin to change, Badger lets out another low whistle and clicks his tongue audibly with a sly smirk before deciding he should find something as well... he digs through the general's possessions for the finest shirt she owns, as well as any other bits and bobs, utterly ignoring the line about dressing commonly. He scoops up the miniatures and puts them into his pack. As plans are mentioned he wanders about a bit, his eyes never fixed on any one point in particular for very long, casually pressing on walls and areas of the room as if checking for a false wall.*
"Ah, a port! So many interesting things in a port. You never know what you'll find! Unlike this castle."
*He sniffs and plops down on the bed... testing it.*

(The book that Badger picked up is entitled Ilyena, Slayer of Resynboros, and after a glance, it appears to be a fictionalized telling of the exploits of a famous dragon slayer. I'll give you more details as Badger reads it.)
The party begins to rifle through General Melleanne's belongings in search of valuables as Badger lays on the bed. They gather up some more clothing and, going thropugh the pockets of a heavy, fur-lined coat, Damara finds a small, red stone with a runic carving. At this point, the party has seen enough of them to know immediately that this is another Ioun Stone. Evette is once again able to identify it. It is an Ioun Stone of Strength +1.
Kenshin digs through the armoire, pushing various tunics, dresses, and coats to the side. He doesn't see anything of note. But just as he's about to close it, something catches his eye on the back wall of the armoire. The grain in the wood seems off. Knocking on it, a large panel pops open, revealing a hidden compartment. Inside that compartment is an axe. Kenshin removes it and examines it. It is superbly crafted, well-balanced, and terrifyingly sharp with decorative engravings all over the axe head. He shows it to Evette and she sees immediately that it is imbued with magic. She identifies it as a Keen Battle Axe (+1 to Critical Range).
Aside from those items, the party finds nothing of any great value and can move on to the High Advisor's room.
